Comments

Following an extremely successful and rewarding season in being crowned Champions of Division 2 North and Runners-Up of Division 2 overall, the Steelers took to Steinwick's Bierkeller, Middlesbrough, for their annual Presentation Evening.

The event, which aims to recognise the achievements of the team and celebrate, collectively, the accomplishments of the squad, saw a number of Steelers win individual accolades to add to this year's silver medals.

Alongside a number of returning awards, saw the introduction of a new, additional category: "Air Raid Player of the Year", which celebrates the player responsible for the greatest number of defensive interceptions. We're delighted to announce the inaugural winner of this award, Ellen Fairbairn; who proved unquestionably successful at picking off deep passes from the Safety position. From all of the Steelers, we would like to congratulate Ellen (Nell) on her fantastic achievement, and hope to see her success continue long into seasons to come.

Joining this year's new award, were a number of returning recognitions for both Offence and Defense, along with four overall team awards.

We're delighted to announce this year's winners, below:

Offensive Rookie of the Year - Rachel Da Cruz
Running Back, Rachel Da Cruz, was awarded this year's Offensive Rookie of the Year, thanks to her outstanding performances in every game; Rachel proved near impossible for defensive players to stop, and scored numerous touchdowns throughout the season.

Defensive Rookie of the Year - Natasha Mackay
Corner Back, Natasha, took to Defense immediately, and made her Steelers debut just a small number of weeks after attending her first training session. Natasha's strength, speed and defensive vision saw her make countless tackles, and effortlessly shut down opposition offences.

Offensive Player of the Year - Rachael Tumelty
Rachael, previously both a Wide Receiver and Defensive Back, adopted a new role of Quarterback for the 2018 season, and demonstrated a clear and outstanding ability, almost immediately. A true leader, she captained the offense and supported a number of rookies to gain their feet in football.

Defensive Player of the Year - Siobhan Henry
Siobhan, who plays Corner Back by nature, was a rock for this year's Defense, subbing in as Linebacker and being a driving force for preventing Offensive runs from breaking the Steelers Defense.

Most Improved Player of the Year - Catherine Hancock

Catherine, who plays Center for the Steelers, was a deserved winner of this year's Most Improved Player award. Her strength and power on the O-Line has been instrumental in protecting the Offense, and she has proven pivotal in providing support to Rookie Linemen.

Player's Player of the Year - Siobhan Henry
Voted both Defensive Player of the Year and Player's Player of the Year, Siobhan has demonstrated an outstanding level of commitment to the game, playing both sides of the ball and tearing down offenses with a number of incredibly agile runs from the Running Back position.

Captain's Player of the Year - Jess Graham
Jess, a Rookie Offensive Lineman who joined the Steelers this summer, has showed an outstanding work ethic all year, and commits everything she has to every session. The joker of the dressing room, Jess has played a pivotal role in keeping spirits high throughout our promotion campaign.

Coaches Player of the Year - Leanne Warters
Leanne has proven her absolute dedication to the team, giving 100% in every training drill and every minute of every game. The Steelers could not be more grateful for Leanne's commitment to football, both on and off the field, and her performance this year has been impeccable.

The Steelers would like to congratulate this year's winners, and look forward to another successful season with the squad.
