Diamond Series, which sees independent teams from across the UK merge together to create combined divisional teams, takes place following the conclusion of the Sapphire Series. This year's contest saw two teams, Northern Blizzard and Southern Blaze, face off at JMO Sports Park in Skelmersdale. Northern Blizzard (pictured), consisted of players from the Teesside Steelers, Cheshire Bears, Edinburgh Wolves, Birmingham Lions, Leeds Carnegie Chargers, Sandwell Steelers, Leicester Falcons and East Kilbride Pirates- as well as female players from Lancashire Wolverines and Staffordshire Stallions. Representing the Steelers were: Players- Ellen Fairbairn - DB Natalie Sleeman - RB Rachel Da Cruz - RB Natasha Mackay - DB Lauren Burns - DL Siobhan Henry - DB Leanne Warters - DB Rachael Tumelty - WR Ellie Durant - WR Coaches- Laura Hegarty - RB's Ben Pardey - DC Andy Smith - WR's Adverse weather throughout the game left both Offenses struggling on passing plays; however, some incredible running from Teesside's Siobhan Henry saw Blizzard's Offense reign supreme on the day, scoring an additional 10 points over Southern Blaze which, combined with team North's shut down Defense, saw Northern Blizzard take victory over the South, for the first time in Diamond Series history. Final Score: North 22 - 12 South |
